Ella is a magnificent small town in the Central Highlands in Sri Lanka. It is surrounded by beautiful green hills and tea plantations. There are a few things one shouldn’t miss while in Ella.
We spent just a day and a half in the beautiful town and wanted to do as much as possible within a day without being in a rush. An early start was essential so we got up pretty early and admired an unforgettable view from the terrace of our hotel room while the nature in front of us was waking up.
After a breakfast in the beautiful garden of the hotel we headed to Little Adam’s Peak. Luckily, the path for the peak was starting right in front of our hotel so we didn’t have to walk too much. There are shaded places on the way to the top so it is ok to go even in the warmest hours of the day. You can dedicate around two hours for it.
Once we went down and reached the main road it was already passing noon time so we decided to have a lunch, rest and wait a bit before going to the nine arch bridge. We went to Adam’s breeze for some local cuisine but left rather disappointed as service was super slow and the food was not the best.
We then followed the road to the nine arch bridge where we spent the rest of the day. More about the bridge you can read here.
The initial plan included also going to some of the waterfalls in the area, but at the end we decided not to rush. If you plan your time better, it is absolutely manageable. You can either go to Diyaluma falls or to Ravana fall.
For dinner you should definitely go to Café Chill located on the main street. It is a huge 3-storey restaurant with delicious food – we ate there twice and this definitely was the best food we tried during our Sri Lanka trip. Here you can find some more ideas for restaurants.
